  • T1

    A dedicated phone connection supporting data rates of 1.544Mbits per second. A T-1 line actually consists of 24 individual channels, each of which supports 64Kbits per second. Each 64Kbit/second channel can be configured to carry voice or data traffic. Most telephone companies allow you to subscribe to this line.

  • T3

    A type of digital phone connection which can carry 45 Mbps (Million bytes per second). A T3 is the equivalent of 30 T1's. It is also referred to as DS3.

  • Tag

    A relevant term associated with or assigned to a piece of information (e.g. a picture, article, or video clip), thus describing the item and enabling keyword-based classification of information.

  • TCPIP

    Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol:  A protocol for communication between computers, used as a standard for transmitting data over networks and as the basis for standard Internet protocols.

  • Telnet

    A protocol that allows users to log on to remote hosts and allows users of one type of computer hardware and software to access other computers that use different hardware and software.

  • Terabyte

    A unit of computer storage equal to one million bytes.

  • Terminal

    An electronic device such as a computer or a workstation that communicates with a host computer or system. The terminal can send or receive data as well as display output either on screen or in a print format.

  • Terms of Service

    A legally binding agreement that outlines a website's operating policies. All registered users must agree to a site's terms before using the service.

  • Throughput

    The amount of data transferred from one place to another or processed in a specified amount of time. It is measured in Kbps, Mbps and Gbps.

  • Top Level Domain

    Represents the last part of a domain name. For example, in the domain name "findmyhosting.com", the top level domain is ".com".

  • Top Speed

  • TraceRoute

    A TCP/IP protocol used to identify the components of the path between two machines and to identify the contribution of each component.

  • Traffic

    The number of visitors, hits, page accesses, etc., over a given time period. As a general term, it describes data traveling around the Internet.

  • Trojan Horse

    A program in which malicious or harmful code is contained inside apparently harmless program or data in such a way that it can get control and do its chosen form of damage, such as ruining the file allocation table or hard disk. Unlike Viruses, Trojan horses do not replicate themselves but they can be just as destructive.
