  • UI

    User Interface:  The part of a program with which a user interacts, such as a menu, button or toolbar.

  • Unix

    A computer operating system. UNIX® is the most common operating system for servers on the Internet. It was co-created by AT&T researchers Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson.

  • Upload

    Transferring data from the computer you are using to another computer. It is the opposite of download.

  • Upload Speed

    The speed at which the data is transferred from one computer to another.

  • UPnP

    Universal Plug and Play:  Allows devices to connect seamlessly and to simplify the implementation of networks in the home and corporate environments.

  • URL

    Uniform Resource Locator:  An address that specifies the location of a file on the Internet. For example http://www.aol.com.

  • USB

    Universal Serial Bus:  A "plug and play" interface between a computer and add-on devices such as camera and microphone. Using a USB connection, a device can be added to your computer without turning the computer off.

  • USENET

    User's Network:  A world-wide network of discussion groups that allows reading and posting of news in various newsgroups. There are thousands of newsgroups covering a myriad of topics.

  • User Name

    A construction of letters and numbers that, in conjunction with a password, uniquely identifies a person and gives the user access to their computer account.
